Even if you are not using the Meeting OWL as a camera during your class, it may not function properly for other classes using this classroom if it is not set as the audio speaker for the classroom.
The Meeting OWL has a camera, microphones, and a speaker inside. Much like a real owl, it has really sensitive hearing. It is designed to frame the camera view it produces based on the direction the sound is coming from. If there is sound emanating from speakers that are installed high up in a room, then the Meeting OWL may not be able to discern which direction the sound is coming from. This will result in poor camera framing. There are also echo and noise canceling features that will not work properly if sound is coming from other speakers.
